House of Ewes

|

Hello Readers!  I am hoping that you are all staying warm these days with this crazy cold front.  Any how...I am glad that you stopped by the blog today.  Our review is of House of Ewes and Jamie is the fantastic dyer behind this yarn line.

"I’m just your basic, everyday, Domestic Goddess :)
Happily married to my high school sweetheart and raising teenagers.
When I’m not donning my super suit I sport my artists garb. Sometimes this involves a mask and gloves, or perhaps becoming one with my favorite chair and yarn. Sometimes you’d find me in thimbles and thread scraps or even covered in wire scraps and epoxied beads.
But always, the artists garb includes my crazy pants, because I am truly crazy about creating!
Each item I make is a combination of careful thought and wild ambition; especially when it comes down to choosing my materials. I create with love and a passion for what I am doing and I try to let that come through in my products"

I am so pleased to share one of her yarn bases with you to day.  I even had a chance to capture some photos in the snow with her yarn!!!

CashBaa

 Fingering / 4 ply
435 yards / 100 grams
US 1 - 2 or 2.25 - 2.75mm
80% Merino / 10% Nylon  / 10% Cashmere

I have to point out how adorable her logo is with the sheep in a house, I just love it!!

I love the feel and squish factor to this yarn, it is a next-to-skin fiber for sure, especially with the Cashmere in it.  Honestly...unless I had looked at the fiber content on the tag, I would never in my wildest dreams thought this had an ounce of nylon in it, it is truly that soft.  Seeing's as how it does have nylon, it really becomes a yarn for all project types.  Who does not love the feel and the thought of socks with Cashmere on your feet.  It is also a great 'One Skein' Project yarn as well.

The hues that she has been able to capture show case several shades of 'Spring Green'.  It is so tonal in how they appear on the yarn base.  It makes me long for spring mornings with a cup of tea and knitting in hand while enjoying a morning out on my patio.

The yardage is quite generous and really allows you to get a good size project out of one skein, or if you happen to purchase two skeins of coordinating colors, this would make for a dynamite dual colored shawl, perfect for spring!

House of Ewes  receive a 5 Needle Review Rating!
Thank you again Jamie for your inspiration through color!

Green Gables Knits

| Monday, January 20, 2014

Happy Monday My Readers!!  Thank you for joining me for yet another fantastic review.

This weeks review is a book review that I am especially excited about.  Quick jump back into time with me; I was a family of three girls, my youngest sister was a true read head who while playing in the woods behind our house with big straw hats and sheets tied around our wastes like long skirt, was always "Anne."  Anne of Green Gables that is, and my sisters and I played for hours on end pretending to be so many of the beloved characters from that book series.  I adored the books of Ann of Green Gables and later on the movies as well.  When I was made aware of Green Gables Knits, I had to take a closer look.

Joanna Johnson is the writer and designer of this book.  She is also the publisher of her own book through her company, Slate Falls Press.  Joanna pays such tribute to the Green Gables book series in her compilation of these timeless patterns.  Her creativity and eye for the time period in her patterns is timeless.  I am pleased to share with you some of her patterns.

Anne's Sweater

Matthew's Vest

Marilla's Apron

I was so inspired by this last pattern, I actually cast on my own apron.  I am using mine as a gift for a Bridal shower gift.  The pattern is fantastically written, such ease in directions makes the pattern an enjoyable knit.  It turned out beautiful.  I was so pleased that I will be making a few of these apron's for future gifts.

No matter what pattern you choose to knit, you will be so pleased at the outcome.  I have not found a book in quite some time that I have wanted to knit all the patterns.  This book needs to be in every knitters pattern library.  It is a work of art~

Maria Elena Bliss...knits and snips!

| Monday, January 13, 2014

Happy Monday Readers!  Today's review is one that I have been looking forward to for quite some time.  This is going to be "The Bag Review" you are not going to want to miss.

"I love creating! I am in love with sewing knitting, embroidery and smocking, but my first love is creating and giving.
My knitting and crochet project bags guaranteed to be fashionable and functional give me the opportunity to keep my customers creating and giving as well. Creating the shop's project bags are a true labor of love with every attention to detail. I make each and every project bag with my customers' need and desire in mind, while making sure designs are original and tested.

MariaElanaBliss Mission- To sell project bags and accessories that are created from the best quality fabrics, supplies and equipment. Not only making sure every order packaged is a true joy to open, but a true representation of MariaElenaBliss handmade quality."

~Maria Elena Bliss~

Quality is a key factor for me when I am purchasing a project bag.  I tend to purchase from designers that really have a knowledge of sewing.  For this reason, you will not find a raw seem any place on this bag!! Maria displays her skill in every bag that she makes by adding just the right tucks and turns of the fabric.  Speaking of fabric, what knitter does not love sheep.  It is a natural love for any fiber artist.  Take a look at some of the specialized features of this particular bag.

These fully lined and interfaced zippered bags feature a padded handle sporting a trigger silver clasp, so you can remove if needed or use attached for a knit as you go handle. Great for smaller /medium knit or crochet projects, such as, socks, accessories and children wear knit, hats, etc, and able to fit inside a bigger tote for carrying your projects to work or knit night.

She uses a heavy interfacing that makes these bags incomparable to others.  They open and sit right next to you so you can knit right out of them.

One of the many great things about Maria Elena Bliss bags are that they come in a range of sizes and styles.  Better yet, if you do not see exactly what you are looking for, then you have the choice of a custom bag.  I had the opportunity to do a custom bag as a Christmas gift for my Mother this year.  I was involved from start to finish, picking the size, the exterior & interior fabric and more.  Her customer service was spot on and she went over and above to make my experience fantastic.

She has such creativity and such an eye for color, you can not go wrong with one of her bags.

 Fair warning!

Once you purchase one of her bags....you might never buy a bag from anyone else again, yes these bags are that amazing!!!

For those of you Readers who have been following my blog for a while, you know that my ratings are on a 1-5 scale.  That is why, without hesitation and with pleasure I give out my first 6 rating!!!!!!

Ocean Patch Creations

| Monday, January 6, 2014

Ocean Patch Creations is a fantastic Etsy shop that I am thrilled to be sharing with you all, my readers, today!  Susan is the delightful and passionate seamstress that is the master designer behind these seamlessly made bags.  She has a large range of sizes and shaped bags.  You will find a bag that could fit any project size.  I am pleased to be featuring her largest zippered bag today on the blog.  All of the fabric that she chooses have some type of ocean inspiration or some type of beauty that the natural world offers.  She likes designs that look like a piece of art, whether hand drawn or painted,  I would have to agree with her on that.

Right off you can see that this is a brightly designed bag, color is such and attraction for knitters and crafters alike.  This is her large bag with dimensions as follows:

Approx. 14.5 x 7 inches with a 2.5 inch flat bottom with a 5.5 inch strap

I am not sure about you, but I do not have a project on the needles that would not fit in this bag, so functional.  Her bags also have a flat bottom to them so that when you are knitting out of the bag it sits upright, I love that feature with knitting bags.  All of her sewing seems are impeccable, and she takes such time and care with every last seem it is hard to find them.  She labels each of her bags tastefully with a patch inside and a great zipper pull handle that is great for sling over your wrist and taking on the go.

Susan even included a small silver charm that resembles something ocean like.  This one happened to be a star fish.  [How Cute!]

Susan offers several other bags that you will really need to check out for your self.  I am sure you will all find that you could use a new project bag, so why not take a look today.
