Interlacements Yarns

| Monday, September 23, 2013

"Interlacements is a wholesale yarn company that has been in business since July 1996. We dye yarns for knitters and weavers, and fibers for spinners. Clear colors mingle to create additional striking colors which is our claim to fame. The colorways are as bright as the industry has ever seen."

As fiber enthusiasts, we spend a lot of time in the dye studio and outdoors doing the things we love the best — dyeing yarns and fibers for you to enjoy. We are constantly on the look out for new yarns, new colorways, and new designs.

If you are looking for color and variety of yarns, then you have the right yarn company.  With over 50 different blends of yarns you are sure to find something that fits your taste.  Color is the main draw for Interlacements Yarns.  You can see in the yarns above that you have a bright bold color way and you also have the contrast of a rich dark color blend.

Thank you again to Interlacements Yarns for contributing to the blog.
Make sure you take a look at all the colors for fall.

"I can’t believe how much I ABSOLUTELY.LOVE dyeing yarn!
Invictus Yarns came about at a time in my life when I needed to find an outlet that I could enjoy while gaining back my personal strength. Dyeing yarn seemed to fit the bill and I haven’t looked back! I truly enjoy my time with the dyepots and look forward to the sense of zen that comes with the process.  I hope that these yarns will bring you the same happiness that I’ve found in creating them for you!"
~Sue~

I am so thrilled to be able to share with you all my readers the fantastic yarn that Sue from Invictus Yarns has allowed me to review.  You all will be pleased to see her colors and several weights of yarns.  Often you will find Sue at fiber festivals and if you are in the area, she will be vending at the following shows.  Be sure to stop by her booth and try her amazing yarns!

Lambtown in Dixon, CA Oct 5-6th

Knitting Lab, San Mateo CA October 31-Nov 3

Victorious

Fingering / 4 ply
 400 yards/100 grams
 US 0 - 2 or 2 - 2.75mm
100% Superwash Merino
2-ply firm twist

Not only is this a stunning color way with a vibrant teal green that lends bouts of deep saturated teal but it is a super tightly plied yarn.  This is just calling out socks for fall.  Getting my hands on this skein really says durable by being a superwash, but has such a fluffy bounce to the touch.  This yarn should be in every one's stash!

Thank you again to Sue for such a fantastic review of her yarn!!
Be sure to stop and see Invictus Yarns at your next Fiber Show or hop on over to her online store and start shopping today.

Before I take you on our weekly yarn review, I wanted to you have a look at an amazingly designed website!  Color Notes Yarns has one of the best sites I have seen in a long time, so user friendly and very inviting with all the color and simplicity.

Now having said that, let me introduce you to Color Notes Yarns and the Family behind the goodness!

"Hi, we’re Jill and Bernie, and together we founded Color Notes Yarn.  We’ve been married for over 20 years and share a passion for color and for making things by hand.  We’re inspired by colors from nature and the landscape, and feel that color brings energy and joy to life.  Our signature look is a vibrant mix of colors blended together on the skein, and the more colors the better!  We are committed to producing outstanding yarns that will enable you to take a simple pattern and create a stunning project that’s worthy of your time and effort.  Every skein of Color Notes Yarn is hand painted in small batches, using the highest quality natural fiber yarns we can find.  We hand dye our yarn in our home studio located in the beautiful San Francisco Bay area, and we can’t imagine living anywhere else in the world."

It is easy to see how any and all of these stunning yarns would be desired.  All Inspired by travels and colors in nature, what could be better to use for your next knitting project.  I love the high twist to the yarns, you always have such great stitch definition when you knit them up.

True to life colors of these yarns are what really give Color Notes Yarns the upper hand when you are wanting a richly dyed yarn.  You will be very pleased at the depth of saturation the each yarn has.  Some have a slight tonal look others are a true solid.

Hampden Hills Alpacas

"Like Fine Wines, we feel that quality Artisan Yarns are hand-crafted with care and passion.  Our hand-painted and hand-dyed yarns are dyed by hand in small batches on our Massachusetts alpaca farm.  There is nothing commercial about our luxury yarns.  We feel if you are going to invest hours of your precious time hand knitting a project, you will want to use the best yarn you can afford.  Our yarns are sinfully soft, are a joy to work with, in colors to inspire.  OH - and we feel fine wine and fine yarns are natural partners!"

~Erica~

Warm – despite the fact this material is so lightweight, it is very warm, perfect for those cool summer nights and those tough winter days. The reason it is so warm is down to the fact it contains microscopic air pockets that provides thermal insulation.

Luxury – this fiber was once treasured by Inca Royalty for its unique strength, luster and slippery softness. Also when it comes to fineness, this is measured in microns. 20-22 microns is considered to be the finest; Alpaca wool comes in at 19-32 microns. You can't really get much better than that!

Silky smooth – this lustrous natural fiber is similar to sheep's wool in the way it is produced and the overall look; however it also differs greatly! For one with Alpaca wool you don't get the prickly sensation that you do with sheep's wool, the reason? It doesn't contain lanolin, thus meaning this material is hypoallergenic making it ideally suited for everyone, including babies and people with sensitive skin. It also means you can wear it as many items of clothing without feeling irritation.

Alpaca Magic

Worsted / 10 ply
102 yards/100 grams
US 7 - 13 or 4.5 - 9mm
100% Alpaca

She calls this Alpaca Magic because, depending on what size needle ( hook) you use, it can get the gauge of either a Worsted weight, OR a Chunky weight stitch. Erica has made samples using both size stitches, and both items came out remarkably soft, and beautiful.
Hand wash, cold water, may use hair conditioner in final rinse. Lay flat to dry.

I am not sure how many of you understand the process of dying and how difficult it can be to color Alpaca, this is no exception.  The colors that are represented in this fiber is impeccable.  The soft shades fade one right into the other with a seamless flow and elegance.

Even from the pictures you can see the shine on the fiber as well as the tiny halo that you know will feel amazingly soft against your skin.  What a winter hat this yarn would make!  Oh...you know, might want to pick up another skein to have a matching cowl or mittens for this winter.

For those of you who have never used such amazing yarns, this is a great way to get a feel for them.
