Well readers...we have a *Special Review*
I decided to do an end of the week review that has a Give Away for your all!!!

I have the pleasure of reviewing a Fantastic New yarn company and dyer.  Ginny  is the owner, dyer, crafter and "color blending specialist" behind Penguin Soup.  A knitter and crocheter herself, Ginny has really jumped in head first into her new dying passion.

As far as what inspires her work;
"EVERYTHING! The world around me.  I'll notice something in nature or in a store and I'll be attracted to its color scheme.  Next I play with those colors and find a way to dye it so that it speaks to me.  I especially love the challenge of dying colorways inspired by the shows I watch and the books I love to read.  Its fun to try to find colors that emulate the character, scene or place."
 ~Ginny~

 Readers, I have for you;

Tuxedo Glitz

Fingering / 4 ply
430 yards/100 grams
75% Merino/20% Nylon/5% Other

Lets first start with the base its self.  So squishy and soft with the right amount of bounce to the yarn.  Her choice of color "Despicable" is a rich deep purple with tonal variations and a hint of black.  The
5% Stellina gives this purple a real pop!  As you turn the yarn over in your hands and work with it, you really see the complement of the silver sparkle come out.  This yarn would make a fantastic pair of socks, mittens or a stunning cowl.  I would recommend this being knit up into the
Willow Cowl by Amelia Lyon.

Penguin Soup also offers several other yarns and bases that are all customizable.  Don't see the color in the base that you want?  That can easily be arranged by doing a custom order.

Another fantastic consumer point of interest is the way she displays her contact information on her ball bands.  Take a look, she has every possible way to contact or find her including the convenience of a smart phone scan code.  Smart thinking lady!!!

Be sure to check out all of her yarn bases and fantastic color themes!

Lets not forget that besides fantastic yarn, Penguin Soup gets up close and personal with Ginny as she hosts a weekly podcast.  So much fun and fiber all at once.  Be sure to check out an episode on her podcast. Found Here

Thank you again to Ginny for such a fantastic review of her yarn!!
So why not treat yourself to a fun skein of Penguin Soup yarn today.

Da Fazenda - Artisanal yarns

| Monday, August 26, 2013

Hello readers!  This week I have a yarn review that is from Brazil.   Fazenda Caixa Dágua is the man in charge of these brilliantly crafted yarns.

His products are the result of research, development and customer feedback. They produce handspun yarn and artisanal hand dyed yarn using only natural dyes branded “Da Fazenda” and wool blankets for riding and scabs. All the material they use comes from there our own animals (Corriedale, Texel and Crioula sheeps) or from the neighbors (Merino and Ideal, as we call Polwarth here in South America). 100% Brazilian wool.

Using natural fibers is a sustainable, renewable and environmentally friendly attitude. They invite you to join the family of textile artists around the world.

Sock Superwash

Da Fazenda Sock Superwash is a super resistant and soft yarn, perfect to be used in socks, shawls, toys, baby clothes and accessories. Our yarn is made with pure Ideal wool - this is how Polwarth fiber produced in South America is called.
As all Da Fazenda’s products, our yarn is kettle-dyed, using only natural dyes.
100% Polwarth wool, from Brazil

416 yards/100 grams
Fingering Weight
100% Wool

You get all the benefits of a 100% wool sock and all the convenience of it being a superwash.  As shown above, the color saturation is very strong and lends to bold colors.  The brown tonal is a favorite of mine, showing different shades  of the same rich brown.  You will not find the toes and heels of your socks blowing out any time soon when you knit your favorite sock pattern with this yarn.  It is a delight to knit with and the results will leave you pleased.

 Merino Worsted

 103 yards/50 grams
Worsted Weight
100% Merino

This is true next-to-skin soft yarn.  Just the thought of this yarn knit up into  cowl or hat makes me feel warm at the thought.  To have the opportunity to knit this into a sweater, now we are talking comfort and the feel you get on a rainy day at the beach with a mug of tea.

Cephalopod Yarns

| Sunday, August 18, 2013

Summer is a great time for bright new colors in your knitting projects.  I always due my due diligence and try to find a new yarn that I am unfamiliar with and give it a shot.  This summer is no different and I am thrilled to share my findings with you today.

Sarah is one of the owners of Cephalopod Yarns. A dyer, designer, writer and teacher, she is also a terrible banjo player and a part- time cat herder. She occasionally writes for xoJane and formally considers herself a Professional Dilettante.  She has been gracious to let my share her yarns with you all my readers.  Her yarns range from fingering all the way up to aran weight. What I have to share with you all is

Skinny Bugga

Fingering / 4 ply (14 wpi)
424 yards / 113 grams
 US 0 - 2 or 2 - 2.75mm
 80% Merino/10% Nylon (Polyamide)/10% Cashmere

In the colorway: Hermit Crab

This is one of the most unique colors I have ever seen, you can see hints of purple, burgundy, and maze yellow.  And yet when you turn the skein in your hand you manage to find a new shade of purple.  I think the hardest part of having this yarn is determining what to make it into.  It is one of those yarns that your really want to make sure you have the perfect project that will due it justice.

The fiber its self has an amazing twist and a softness that really enhances the shine of the yarn.  Stitch definition on a fingering weight yarn like this is stunning!  It really does not matter if you are using an intricate cable pattern or just garter stitch, you will be amazed at the fabric that it will create.  You will have a beautiful garment that will last.

So go out on a limb this summer and try a new yarn that you have not used before.  Trust me on this recommendation, you will be so pleased that you did you will make this a go to yarn for years to come.

Thank you again to Sarah for such a fantastic review of her yarn!!
Time to get over to Cephalopod Yarns and pick up a few skeins, don't be surprised if this becomes one of your new favorites!!!
