Review 2 of 2

I am so pleased to be reviewing a previously reviewed designer.  She has has several patterns that have come out and really is building a fantastic pattern library for herself.  Today I have the opportunity to feature her latest Ebook that contains 6 individual patterns.

A note from the designer:

"I love knitting. Not seaming (except for grafting, which is really knitting), and I could never make it through the endless expanse of a body and sleeves were it not for planning and anticipating the yoke. And all the better if I have someone else knit the sleeves and body and then I can just do the yoke!
I always work in the round when it makes sense (I don’t like steeking, so cardigans will be open) and go bottom up. It just seems to work better, and it makes more sense to me.

When I graduated, I began to learn to sew. Not one for patterns, I moved on to learning pattern drafting with a couple textbooks. I loved sewing, and could not understand how anyone could like knitting - it took so long! When I began knitting, it wasn’t long until I decided I really wanted to make a sweater, but was mildly paranoid about the result being too thick and bulky. So I made SURE it would not happen. I knit a crazy complicated lace sweater at 8 sts to the inch, the method from Elizabeth Zimmermans seamless sweaters, but putting all the shaping into lace motifs was some extra. Yes, I was already fluent in lace knitting and loved it. Otherwise I dare say I could not have made it through!
Once knitting, it was pretty easy to apply what I already knew about pattern drafting to knitting patterns, and here I am.

I have a group called femininebydesign where I can be found, I do all my test knits there if you might want to join one."

The newest Ebook of hers is called,

Sleeping Beauty Knits

A collection of 6 patterns for Malabrigo’s freelance pattern project. Sleeping Beauty is a quick trip through an old tale. Knit the castle walls, or a gift for the baby princess, then at the end is the crown tee to celebrate the princess bride! Despite having such romantic inspiration, I have tried to keep everything modern and wearable. What is the sense of knitting something you won’t be able to use every day?

Crown Tee

Bramble Stole

Fairy Togue

Handspun Sweater

Sleepy Hoodie

Stone Wall Throw

Her photos show of her amazing knitting talent and really gives you fantastic detail as to what you are getting in a pattern.  You will not be sorry when you purchase these patterns, they are so well written I would challenge a knitter of any skill level to try them.

This is the newest of her patterns and she just launched it May 2013.  It is available as a Ravelry download for a fantastic price of $17.84.  That means that you are getting all 6 patterns for just under $3.00 each.  What a fantastic surprise to gift someone through ravelry or just a few new patterns for yourself to be inspired by.

Jenise has really out done herself with this Ebook.  I don't even know that it is possible to single out one pattern as my favorite when you see them all together, it makes you want them all!!

Thank you again to Jenise for such a fantastic review of all her patterns!!

Make sure that you all hop on over to Ravelry and purchase your copy today.

I trust everyone had a fantastic Memorial Weekend and is ready for the new week!  Just so you all know, this weeks review will have TWO reviews and will run for two weeks.  I am one day out from my due date with our first child and needed a small break.  Not much will change, just a two week review cycle.

Review 1 of 2

Now...For the fantastic goodies that I have to show you all today!  GloriaPatre Spin 'N' Knit
is Monica from Saskatchewan, Canada.  She had an amazing eye for the artistic look.  She has ventured into everything from dangle stitch markers with all kinds of charms, buttons, yarns and much more.  She has a skill and craft that is really her own and does an amazing job.

"A long time knitter who loves yarn, I fell in love with spinning and never looked back! All my handspun is made with great care with the discerning knitter in mind! I'd never sell a skein I wouldn't love to knit with myself!  I love making stitch markers! Sparkly, sweet or whimsical, whatever mood strikes me! And of course, I love making them for the PhatFiber Sampler Box theme of the month!
In my 35+ years of knitting, I have found dangle markers are much easier to maneuver from one needle to the other as the dangles give them balance, much like the ease of knitting stitches an inch into your knit-in-the-round project. Dangle markers are also easier to see and pick up if you drop them (and we all drop them) plus they can't roll away under a chair! They don't add extra bulk to your knitting right next to your stitches the way beaded rings do, either. So you can have pretty as well as functional and that's always a good thing!
I am also a button fanatic! I love buttons as both decoration and totally functional, so I was delighted to find a supplier who makes beautiful buttons for a reasonable cost! It is my delight to make them available to other avid, knitters, sewers, quilters, weavers and fabric crafters! There's no such thing as "too many buttons"!"

~Monica~

Let's start with her buttons that really could not be any cuter than they are!!!

The smoothness of each button is so fantastic, and the prints make them exactly what they are.  How could you not plan your next project around these beauties!!

I was so thrilled at her stitch markers!  I have personally used them with several types of needles and yarns and really have only raving reviews.  I do agree with Monica, having evenly weighted stitch markers on a project makes a really big difference.  Why not check out a few sizes and styles that she carries.  These are just a few, she has so many that range in all sizes and styles you are sure to want a few sets for your summer knitting.

Just seeing these markers makes me think of all the little treats that I want to send to all my knitting friends just as a fun thing to do.  So much care and quality goes into her markers it is easy to see why people love them.

Thank you again to Monica for such a fantastic review of all her treasures!!

Morgan's Fine Yarns

| Monday, May 20, 2013

This review is a fun Spring into Summer review.  For all of you who are like me and enjoy a bright splash of Pink now and then or if you love pink all together, this is a review that you are not going to want to miss!

Kirsten is the lady of color when it comes to her hand dyed yarns.  They are a small, artisan yarn dyer based located in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. All of her yarns are dyed and dried outdoors on our small farm which is home to many goats and chickens, a couple of cows and a small herd of cats.  You should see her BLOG and see how cute these goats are!!!

"I learned to knit when I was 7 from my Gramma, Margaret Morgan. She passed away before I became the avid knitter that I am today, but I know she is smiling at all of the beautiful things I have made. I named my yarn in honor of her because without her I would not have the passion for yarn and knitting that I have today."
~Kirsten~

Do you ever get the feeling some times like you just need a bright splash of color in your knitting?  I know I do, and Morgan's Fine Yarns is a one stop shop to pick up a few skeins of color.  I love having a few skeins of color on hand for color work or projects that require two colors.  And who can forget the famous Color Affection Shawl that would look fantastic with any three colors of Kirsten's.

The color way that she has decided to share with you all is her fantastically colored Pink "Andie."

Brecknock Sock
Fingering / 4 ply
420 yards/115 grams
80% Merino/20% Nylon

This is a great work horse yarn for any project and like I mentioned before, could easily have a few skeins of this yarn in my stash for just such a project!

Thank you again to Kirsten for such a fantastic review yarn!!

Sheep Dreamery

If you are not already familiar with Sheep Dreamery aka "Keli" then let me take a moment to introduce you.  Keli is the master dyer behind the Sheep Dreamery yarn company.  She also has a fantastically funny and really entertaining weekly Podcast that you all should check out.  She also has her own web page that has all her information and how to contact or follow her blog.  She is always so fun and full of life, it is easy to see why she enjoys her craft so much!

The yarn that Sheep Dreamery has featured for our review is her Newest Bases!

Manokin

 Colorway "Pinkberries"

Fingering / 4 ply
400 yards/100 grams
US 1 - 3 or 2.25 - 3.25mm
100% Merino/Single Ply

 Colorway "Boat Drinks"

This yarn, being that it is 100% Merino & Single Ply, you can imagine just how soft and light this yarn is.  Keli has compared her yarns to a very low twist and similar to Knit Picks Chroma.  So you can see why she is so excited about this new base.  I can think of several things that would take up a few skeins of the yarn quite nicely.  When you get this yarn in your hands you will not only feel like snuggling it under your chin just to get a good feel, but you will also notice the fullness of the fiber.  I am sure once properly washed, this yarn will bloom nicely.

You will also find that Keli does a tremendous job with her color choices.  If the fun names that she gives each colorway are not enough to give you a chuckle, then I don't know what will.  This particular yarn takes well to color, but at the same time still remains soft in its tones.  Her blending  of multiple colors is seamless and her solids are soft and easy on the eyes.  I am sure that with the launch of her new base, she will be sure to have some fun Spring/Summer colors!

Thank you again to Keli for such a fantastic new line of yarn!!

Be sure to check out ALL of Sheep Dreamery's yarns today!!
I bet it's like the old saying, "I bet you can't just eat ONE potato chip!"
Her yarn varieties will really capture you
