Taylored Fibers

| Sunday, June 24, 2012

You do not often find such a talented crafter who has meaning and true purpose other than just a hobby when it comes to yarn.  Amber is a fiber artiest with a touching story.  Please allow me to share with you her beginnings.

"I have been knitting for as long as I can remember. My grandmother taught me to crochet. That was as far as I got until I had the incredible good fortune to meet my mentor, beloved friend and neighbor.
I'm a transplant from California and my mentor made the transition to living in Maryland bearable. She took me in and introduced to me a world of fiber I didn't know existed behind those hanks of yarn I bought.
She and her husband ran a fiber processing business and I would always mosey over and "play" as we called it. If it weren't for those two, Taylored Fibers would not exist. She taught me everything I know about fiber and fiber processing.
Much of what I do is inspired by her and my desire to pass her knowledge onto others in the form of my items and my skills. Shortly after we lost her in July 2010, TayloredFibers was born. I will miss her all my life, but she's with me every time I start a dye pot, pull out my drum carder or clean a fleece. ."

Thank you Amber for sharing with all the readers!

Now for the beauty of her colors!

Zig Zag Stitches

|

I am so excited about this weeks review!!  The name Zig Zag Stitches may not be a new name for you.  However if you have never seen Cathy's AMAZING project bags, you are in for a shopping spree on Etsy this week.  I was so excited to review her bag that I actually cast on a pair of socks just so I would have a project to test out the bag.  I know I am not the only knitter who has done this...

I must say, this is the perfect sock or small project bag.  I have one of her small drawstring bags.  The first thing to catch my eye is her fabulous choice in fabrics.  Really, when you look in her shop it will be hard to choose just one on her fabric alone.  The next two items were a tie for me, as a knitter I was drawn to the great closure on the bag and the construction of a self supported bag.  It is so great to know that you can close your bag and go.  You will not be looking through a mess to find lost DPN's.  As a big time sock knitter, having the ability to knit out of my bag is so convenient.  Cake up your yarn, cast on and start knitting!

All around you can not go wrong with a Zig Zag Bag you might find that you will have a use for more than one size or shape.  Cathy has fantastic pricing and she is great to talk with.  Drop over to her shop and tell her hotpinksocks sent you.

Thanks again Cathy!!

Rambling Rose...Exceptional Hand Dyed Yarns

| Sunday, June 17, 2012

I am really excited to share with you someone who is newer to the dyeing industry, but looks like she has been doing it for years!  Her color quality, fiber base and detailed quality is fantastic.  Teresa Rosello is so very talented in what she does.  She has been a crafter for many years and has found a new love for knitting, spinning and fiber.  I was so excited to be able to review her yarn and was really blown away by her quality.  Take a look for your self.

Alluring: Merino Sock
Fingering / 4 ply
400 yards/100 grams
100% Wool
100% Superwash
Alluring is a high twist squishy superwash sock yarn.  I have to tell you that this might be one of my new favorite sock yarns!  So soft, really durable and I know I just said this, but really squishy!  Amazing yarn for any kind of project!!

Angelic: Merino DK
DK / 8 ply
240 yards/100 grams
100% Wool
100% Superwash
Angelic is a soft single ply merino superwash yarn.  I have to tell you that her yarn creation in this skein is better than Tosh Merino DK, that is really saying something.  The feel is so much softer than Tosh and her colors are just as gorgeous!  Congrats Teresa on a wonderful creation!

Fuzz and Sunshine

Patti is the shop owner and creator of this next yarn review.  Just a little bio from Patti.

My whole life has been spent trying to find the one craft I loved more than all the others, but, of course, I never found IT. I dreamed I'd find something I'd want to do for the rest of my life and be content with IT and nothing else would take me from IT. But I have realized I have many loves. Some I return to over and over. Some are just fond memories. But I have a great desire to keep trying new things. I get a little rush of excitement when I see something and think "I could do THAT."
What a fun and enthusiastic crafter.  I love when people take what they love and turn it into a passion.  Patti has done just that and I am so excited to do my very first Lace Weight Yarn review with her beautiful yarn.

These beauties are Fuzz and Sunshine's Lace weight yarn.
Hand painted mulberry silk and merino in a lace weight. Pale salmon, yellow and peach just shimmer on the silk. Beautiful hand and wonderful to work with.

Content: 50% Merino Wool 50% Mulberry Silk
Weight: 100 grams
Approx. Yards: 711
Lace Weight
Hand wash and dry flat.

I was so excited to be able to show off the shine from the silk content.  I can totally picture this lace made up into a wedding shawl that will be adorned by a bride on a beach front ceremony.  I Love the romantic feel of her color choices and how they change for one color to another with out you even knowing it.
The way this lace moves over your needles and into your knitted project is stunning.  I am loving knitting with it and I am sure you will to.  This is the perfect yarn for your Summer Knitting Project.  Anyone have a Bride they need to knit for in the fall?  Now is the time to pick up a skein and get moving.

Patti also has a passion for Spinning Fiber and Felting Fiber as well.  She has a range of yarns that you are sure to find a love for.  Hop on over to her Shop and pick up something new today!
